Most of us have access to a wide range of toys and tools when it comes to our training and it can be real easy to pack it in for the year and use the treadmill and trainer. Remember that specificity of training is key and running on a treadmill is not the same as running on the road and trail. Do your best to wait as long as possible before moving inside for your exercise. It’s not only good for you physically, but mentally you should look forward to indoor training as a treat and a break from the elements and darkness.
Preseason also offers an opportunity to take a break from your heart rate monitor and GPS. Just put them away and go full Jedi for your fall training sessions. Those tools have a place in your training but preseason offers a great opportunity to tune into your body.
