This comes up every year, so I’ll keep this short. The time to lose (or gain if needed!) weight is during pre season. This is counter intuitive to what most of us believe. Generally, as athletes, we rationalize getting fat in the winter with the idea that we’ll lose it when training volume starts to pick up in the spring. In reality, during peak training, you should be holding your weight steady so that all of the calories you take in can be used for performance and to support your compromised immune system. This means the time to lose weight is now.
