Here are tips for getting started with TrainingPeaks.com and your new Garmin 310xt or Garmin 910xt. If your watch and computer are already set up, just scroll down below the line on the middle of this page.
First, you’ll need to download two pieces of software on your machine.
Click here for the Garmin ANT Agent download.
Click here for the Training Peaks Device Manager download.
For reasons I don’t understand, you’ll need a Garmin Connect registration so make sure you have one of those.
One time and one time only you’ll need to make sure that your Garmin is pared with your ANT stick:
> turn on your Garmin
> press Mode button (on the left side of the watch)
> press the down arrow button (on the right side of the watch) to highlight Setting and press the Enter button
> press the down arrow button to highlight System and press the Enter putton
> scroll all the way down (using the down arrow button again) to Data Transfer and press Enter
> the Enabled options should be set to “Yes” and the Pairing option should be set to “On”
Once the software is installed and your watch is set it will make the synching of your Garmin and Training Peaks much easier. Going forward you only need to do the follow to transfer data from your Garmin to Training Peaks. Here are the steps:
Plug in your Garmin ANT+ stick and turn on your watch. The ANT+ stick is the little black thumb drive in the picture below. They should automatically start synching. Your watch will say “Transferring Data” and your ANT Agent software will say almost the same. Unless you’re the kind of athlete that likes to drive your coach nuts by only doing one huge batch upload every 10 days, the whole upload should take less than two minutes.
Make sure those are the workouts you want saved to Training Peaks and that they have not already been uploaded to Training Peaks. If there are any duplicates you do not wish to add to Training Peaks, uncheck the box to the left of the entry. Once you have a box checked to the left of all the files you want to upload, click Save.
That’s it. Your workouts have been uploaded. If you were already logged in to Training Peaks before this process started, you’ll need to refresh the page to see the data just uploaded. Next step is to add your qualitative data in the Post-Activity comments by clicking on each workout and typing in your notes.
If you want to delete the activities from your Garmin so the upload time is quicker next time (since it won’t be adding duplicate file to your computer) you can delete them from you Garmin by going to:
press Mode button
> scroll to History and press Enter button
> scroll to Delete and press Enter button
> scroll to All Activities and press Enter button
> select “Yes” for “Delete all activities?”
